Stupid Mistakes   Leave a comment

Sometimes, it pays to walk away from a problem for a few hours. That is what I did yesterday- walked away from my radio troubles for a little bit.

When I came back, I realized I had connected the HF antenna to the VHF/UHF port, and connected a 6′ piece of 50 ohm coax to the HF antenna port, instead of the other way around. When I swapped these, the noise floor increased on 20 meters (which is a good thing, considering I heard almost no noise or signals at all over the past few days). I tuned around and heard several stations ragchewing on the 20 meter band.

Perhaps I am back in business after all!

I removed the Yaesu FT-7800, Icom 281H and Tiny Trak from the car. I will work on these next, once I have done some more optimization on the HF radio configuration.

Now that I’m back on the air, look out radio world, I have to make up for some lost time!

I hope you enjoyed this post!
