Amateur Radio This Week: 2018.20   Leave a comment

I am incredibly bummed.  I finally finished logging my NM QSO Party contacts on paper, but then I saw that I have exceeded the deadline for their official submission.  130 contacts in 8 counties, and I will get no credit for it.  I will take this into account next year, and may not participate- it’s not the contest’s fault, it’s that it is too close to storm chase season for me, and I simply don’t have time to log the contacts.

Anyway, I’m really bummed about it.  I haven’t touched my radio since I found out.  Hopefully, that will change soon.

Amateur Radio This Week: 2018.14   Leave a comment

I have been inactive over the past week.  I think I checked into the Albuquerque SCAT Net a few times, but other than that, I have been quiet.

I did develop a route for the upcoming New Mexico QSO Party, and am looking forward to running that on April 14.  I will go through Sandoval, Rio Arriba, San Juan, McKinley, Cibola, and Catron counties at a minimum.

I am also proud to announce that I will be leading a storm chasing trip for Magdalena High School!  We will be on the road from April 29 – May 4, and will go where the storms lead us.  One of the students has a ham radio license, and I will bring some 2 meter equipment with me.  Hopefully, other students will want to get licensed as well.

They put together a Go Fund Me to help raise money for their program.  Please donate and help keep this program running.

Amateur Radio This Week: #17   Leave a comment

This week, I started out by knocking out my NM QSO Party log. I submitted it a mere few minutes before the deadline, claiming 53,370 points. I made 191 QSOs from 8 counties, picking up 35 states, and 2 Canadian Provinces.

I checked into the Albuquerque SCAT Net at least once last week as well, announcing the Socorro amateur radio test session that occurred on 4/24.

Speaking of which, we had our licensing exam, and several folks from my amateur radio class took and passed the Technician class exam! I am watching to see when their licenses are in the FCC database.

Thank you for reading my post.

NM QSO Party – Planned Route   Leave a comment

Here is my planned route for the NM QSO Party:

At first, it seems pretty boring and short, which it is. However, I will have just completed an overnight shift at work, so I’m not going to promise more than 6 or 7 hours of driving after that. Even so, this route will let me run:

Sandoval, NM
Bernalillo, NM
Torrance, NM
Guadalupe, NM
De Baca, NM
Lincoln, NM
Chaves, NM

Depending on how I feel, I can expand this trip in several places and perhaps get a few more. If you request a specific county or band, let me know via the comments section, and I’ll see if I can swing it.
