Amateur Radio This Week: 2017.32   Leave a comment

This week, I have finally updated the graphics from my trip to Illinois.  I did not, however, update the tally at the top of the page, so I will fix that soon.

This week, I sorted quite a few QSL cards and sent out a few new ones as well.  At this point, I think all that are left to tend to are DX QSL cards.  I will work on those ASAP.

In terms of actual radio activity, I checked into the Albuquerque SCAT Net a few times by HT, by my Kenwood 707, and by my Icom 2100, all on the 2 meter side.

My DX4Win logs are completely up to date as well.

Overall, it is a good place to start this week.  Perhaps I will make a few more contacts over the next few days.  Sometimes, I have a guilt complex about making more contacts when I am behind on my logs or my QSL cards.

Thank you for reading my post.

I tested out my Alinco yesterday, and, to my surprise, I have the same problem I always had. I will test it out on a different power supply and antenna in the next few days and see if that changes anything.

I updated my DX4Win logs and returned one QSL card.

I am slowly catching up!

Thank you for reading this post.

The 20 meter band has been in bad shape the last few days. I have only heard a handful of stations over the last two days. I can barely hear the net control operator of the 20 meter SSB County Hunter’s Net, and I can almost always hear him.

I updated my mobile counties page: 943 counties in 46 states.

I have completed logging the large stack of QSL/MRC cards that has built up over the last two months. It feels good to get those on their way.

I will drive to Hatch, NM today, but I see that AB7NK/K7SEN are headed south as well, a few minutes ahead of me. I won’t run the counties, but perhaps I will put up the 6 meter antenna and listen there.

Thank you for reading my post, and if you are waiting for a QSL/MRC card from me, it should be on its way soon.

Mid-Week Summary   Leave a comment

This week was relatively slow on the radio so far, and it might continue to be slow.

I tore apart the rig boxes in the Malibu so that I could take my HF radio with me to CA. I brought the Yaesu FT-857D to CA and operated from Cibola, NM and San Diego, CA, where San Diego was a new county for me.

I toyed around with getting my Signalink set up to run from my netbook and work with the FT-857D. No dice. I installed the last free version of Ham Radio Deluxe and connected the data cable, but Ham Radio Deluxe would not connect to the radio. I had almost everything set to “Auto Detect”, and made sure that the Yaesu was set to CAT mode and 4800 bps. Still, no connection. I did not have an audio cable connected, but I figured the software would allow for radio/computer connection.

I need to rebuild the radio boxes with a few longer cables and such before the storm chase season hits. While I have them apart, however, it will be worth it to try to get some of the digital modes before storm chase season.

Unrelated, I returned 10 MRC cards from my January Texas trip. I have about another 10 to do- I’ll finish those later today.
