Amateur Radio This Week: 2017.32   Leave a comment

This week, I have finally updated the graphics from my trip to Illinois.  I did not, however, update the tally at the top of the page, so I will fix that soon.

This week, I sorted quite a few QSL cards and sent out a few new ones as well.  At this point, I think all that are left to tend to are DX QSL cards.  I will work on those ASAP.

In terms of actual radio activity, I checked into the Albuquerque SCAT Net a few times by HT, by my Kenwood 707, and by my Icom 2100, all on the 2 meter side.

My DX4Win logs are completely up to date as well.

Overall, it is a good place to start this week.  Perhaps I will make a few more contacts over the next few days.  Sometimes, I have a guilt complex about making more contacts when I am behind on my logs or my QSL cards.

Thank you for reading my post.

I removed the LDG antenna tuner from the loop. This will be part of my mobile set up from now on.

Without it, I made a 20 meter contact on the county hunter’s net, though I only listened for a little while.

I also updated an Excel spreadsheet where I list which counties I from which I have received QSL cards. I still have a lot of work ahead of me in the QSL department, so I will work on that this week.

Thank you for reading my post.

Today, I made two contacts.

The first contact was on 10 meters, and was into Florida. The other station said I had some RF on my signal, but that may have been due to over-driving the microphone.

The second contact was checking into the Caravan Club Net on 145.330 MHz. I try to check into this net every Sunday night, but I am hit or miss with it.

I also finished off WY8I’s MRC/QSL card. Now, I have a stack of them (though none with 82 QSOs) still to process!

Thank you for reading my post!

I checked into the Albuquerque SCAT Net a few times this week, but failed to report it on this blog. I have been checking into the 444.000 MHz side, just because I can.

I made one QSO on 20 meter SSB in the PA QSO Party.

Today, I received an envelope from WY8I. I figured it was an MRC card, and I was right! 82 QSOs with WY8I that I need to confirm! To put this into perspective, I have attached a map of states where I have been mobile and talked to WY8I:

I hope you enjoyed my post!

I made one county hunter contact today on the 20 meter SSB net. Band conditions have been terrible. You can tune from one end of the band to the other and only hear a handful of signals.

I sent out a bunch of QSL cards today, but I still have many more to go. I will hopefully finish those out this weekend.

Stay tuned, I hope to play on the radio this weekend!

Log Updates   Leave a comment

I finally had a few minutes to start going through my backlog of QSL cards that I had received. Within a few minutes, it became apparent to me that my summer Colorado run had not been logged in DX4Win.

Hopefully, I will get to update that soon.

Also, my new radio layout is coming together nicely. It will be good to be on the air again after such a long time. I’ve only made one HF and one VHF QSO so far this year, which is just sad.

10 Meters is Open….and DX QSLs Have Arrived!   Leave a comment

I made a few QSOs today on ten meters. I worked Columbia in the afternoon and Japan in the evening. I also heard several more Japanese stations, a Brazilian station, a Mexican station and a Chilean station this evening, but was not able to bust the pile up.

I don’t know whether ten meters is officially open, or whether it is extra populated because of the CQWW contest that is happening this weekend.

Also, a week or so ago, I received a QSL envelope from the ARRL bureau that contained a few DX cards! I always love getting those. There has been a lull for a few years because I put a bunch of postage on them, and I haven’t been super active in DX.
